Gwar [14]

Answer:

$1,020,000

Explanation:

Tracy company has 4,000 out of the 10,000 outstanding shares the common stock of Penn corporation

Penn earns $450,000 during 2018

They make a cash dividend payment of $150,000

Therefore, the balance at December 31, 2018 can be calculated as follows

= $900,000 + ($450,000×0.4)-($150,000×0.4)

= $900,000+$180,000-$60,000

= $1,080,000-$60,000

A student in a principles of economics course makes the following remark: "The economic model of perfectly competitive markets
DochEvi [55]

Answer:

The remark is incorrect.

Explanation:

The student says that firms in a perfectly competitive market earn zero profits in the long run which does not apply to the real world. The firms in the real-world will not operate at zero profits.

The student is getting confused between accounting profit and economic profit. Zero profit here implies zero economic profit. The firms will still be earning positive accounting profits.

Accounting profit is the difference between total revenue and explicit cost while economic profit is the difference between total revenue and both explicit and implicit cost.

Damm [24]

Answer:

1-A surplus exists when the price is above equilibrium, which encourages sellers to lower their prices to eliminate the surplus. A shortage will exist at any price below equilibrium, which leads to the price of the good increasing.

2-The supply curve shows quantity supplied at various prices, and the demand curve shows quantity demanded at various prices, so at the intersection of the two curves, these quantities and prices are equal. Therefore, equilibrium price is represented by the intersection of the supply and demand curves.

3-Changes in demand or supply cause disequilibrium because they create an imbalance between quantity demanded and quantity supplied.

4- The market is always moving towards equilibrium because if the price is too high, there is a surplus and prices tend to fall until the surplus is sold and equilibrium is reached, and if the price is too low, there is a shortage and producers raise prices and increase quantity supplied.
