Olmec culture developed in the Preclassic of Mesoamerica. Although there are indications of this culture in several places in Mesoamerica, the Olmec cultural area is considered to cover the southeastern part of the state of Veracruz and western Tabasco.

The Aztecs established Mexico Tenochtitlan in the center of the Valley of Mexico, expanding their control to city-states located in the current states of Mexico, Veracruz, Puebla, Oaxaca, Guerrero, the coast of Chiapas, the State of Hidalgo, and part of Guatemala. The territory that was conquered was not of a monotonous climate, but it covered climates as varied as the high mountain polar climate to warm climates.
