Answer: A captive Native American, El Turko, told Coronado that he knew of a wealthy city where boats had oarlocks made of gold, golden bowls, even common people had plates made of silver. El Turko led Coronado's men through Apache country, and into Texas. The Spaniards believed he would lead them to the city. Instead, he led them to his own home village.
