Food labels should be used in order for the consumer to know what the composition of the food is and how many nutrients, calories, sodium and fat he or she will be ingesting if they consume that food.

It's food labeling is critical to helping people make the best choice. In the case of processed foods, it is through the label that the consumer identifies what they will consume. In general, ultra-processed foods have a high number of ingredients and especially ingredients with unfamiliar names and not used in culinary preparations such as hydrogenated vegetable fat, thickener, flavoring, etc.

Labels show the amount of nutrients, protein, sugar, fat, salt and fiber in a given amount of food. Consumers should read these labels and evaluate if the information placed there is appropriate for a healthy diet.
