Answer:Yevgeny finally gets through to Seryozha, getting a promise from his son to no longer smoke by telling him a bedtime story of a kingdom where a young prince died due to consumption and left his old father to be killed by enemies.    In paragraph 64 it states, " Listen, he said, raising his eyes to the ceiling. Once upon a time...'' Then when he finished the story he said "I am not going to smoke any more. ..." So because of the story the 7- year old boy will not smoke anymore.

Answer:

By telling him a bedtime story of a kingdom where a young prince died due to consumption and left his old father to be killed by enemies.

Explanation:

In Anton Chekov's short story "Home", the third person narration tells the story of a prosecutor trying to teach his seven year old son about the bad habit of smoking.

Yevgeny Petrovitch Bykovsky, the father of the young boy Seryozha had been told by the governess that his son had been caught smoking, twice. It was his attempts to teach his son the bad influence of smoking that the whole plot is concerned about. Initially, he tried to tell him like a normal lecture but the young boy paid no interest in his speech. Rather, he was dwelling in his own world.

Then, right before bedtime, the boy requested his father to tell him a story. It was then that he began telling him of an old king and his young son who "<em>smokes</em>". He then went on to narrate that the son "<em>fell ill with consumption through smoking, and died when he was twenty. His infirm and sick old father was left without anyone to help him. There was no one to govern the kingdom and defend the palace. Enemies came, killed the old man, and destroyed the palace...</em>" At this, Seryozha promised that he was "<em>not going to smoke any more. . . .</em>" In this way, Yevgeny finally got through to his son about not smoking again.

When Daedalus is first introduced in the story, "Daedalus and Icarus," we immediately know that he is a skilled artificer. We q
sergij07 [2.7K]

Daedalus is the desired character in this story of him and his son. From the very start, we are showcased his most wonderful skill of defined intelligence. In addition, he is also famous for the innovative mind and his understanding of sculptures and architecture. But like many intelligent beings, he has a dark-side which carries his emotions of pride, jealousy, anger, and cold-heartedness.

Originally, he belongs to Athens but subsequently enters Crete which is reigned by King Minos. The famous Daedalus is forcefully thrown out of Athens as he murdered his apprentice Perdix, who is said to be his nephew, out of jealousy. This shows his evil attributes and complexity in his behavior while indulging in anything other than his innovations and experimentation.

Although, his several successful inventions, the wax-wings become the most celebrated invention among the crowd. But unfortunately, those wings melt as soon as Icarus approaches towards the Sun, and he falls to die. This abrupt situation in the story creates a question-“Why did he risk his son’s life?”

Daedalus is always focused on creating something without realizing what a menace the invention can bring. The quick-tempered scientist took his experiment so far, risking his son’s life, just to track the limits of his invention. However, he pays a great price for this action. His story of a great intellect converts into a moral story for us, which states not to challenge the laws made by nature.

Contrary to the famous belief, in my opinion, he is not an “epic hero”. Even though he is more intelligent, he does not showcase any leadership-skills or physical power. However, his deep love for his son can be noticed in multiple cases. Another popular theory states that Daedalus can be a wise mentor of any hero because he assisted Theseus in his conquest for the Labyrinth.

Who is credited with first creating dialogue on stage?
emmainna [20.7K]
I believe this would beThespis considering he was the first person to walk onto a stage and actually portray someone other than himself.  Being the first actor, he actually delivered the first dialogue uttered.  Prior to Thespis, the stage performance consisted of various people telling or relaying a story.  Dialogue, or speech was first used or delivered in a play considered blasphemous at the time as he delivered lines spoken by God.
