Benjamin Franklin started writing his autobiography in 1771; in what was still British America. He had to interrupt its writing during the American Revolution. The part that deals with the virtues is part of Part Two of his autobiography, which was written in 1784, after the Revolution, when the United States had won their independence from the British Empire.

Franklin was then living in Paris, France, and serving as the US Ambassador (Commissioner) to France. He decided to achieve “moral perfection” and made a list of thirteen virtues. He started listing each daily transgression to each virtue and came to the conclusion that he had the most problem with mastering the virtue of Order. Very philosophically, he acknowledged that he would never achieve perfection but that what mattered was the attempt and the inevitable overall improvement.

Shkiper50 [21]
Roosevelt is telling the American public that maintaining an isolationist policy amidst the war will not protect them. All the freedoms that he listed on his speech would be threatened by the march of the Axis powers and it would be a matter of time when they have to confront this threat.

Which one is grammatically correct?
kherson [118]

Answer:

The correct answer is: I had a much better understanding of how they worked.

Explanation:

The correct answer is the second one, due to the verb tense consistency.

Verb tense consistency refers to keeping the same tense throughout a clause. If you use a past tense in a sentence, you must finish it in the same manner. When you use a certain tense you must be consistent throughout the sentence.

For example:

We watched the movie, and then we went to dinner.
