After overthrowing the rule of a tyrannical government, it’s easy to see why the founding fathers wanted to ensure that the citizens would have rights that could not be taken away from them: they wanted to ensure that the people of the United States of America would never be subjected to such tyranny ever again.
It hurt the south for a while, slave labor was good for the south's economy but bad for competition up north because nobody could find a job if all the slaves worked for free. The removal of slavery cemented this competition-based method into America.
They were written as propaganda to support the ratification of the Constitution.
