Regions having dominant plant types and similar climatic conditions are called biomes. There are several terrestrial biomes on our planet like tropical forests, savannas, temperate grasslands, deciduous forests, Mediterranean scrub, coniferous forests and tundra.

In the equatorial region, there are heavy rainfall all the year, so trees are tall and dense which does not allow the sunlight to pass through the forest which makes the forest denser. This is type of forest is called tropical rainforest and tropical evergreen forest.

Out of all these forest, tropical forests are the largest biomes constituting highest biodiversity and primary productivity. They cover half of the central and south America and are centred in the Equator. There are several sub-biomes in this biome itself.
