Spanish conquistadors were fascinated by many valuable resources like gold and gospel. Gold would become their wealth and this was their main motivation.

Along with this, they wanted to gain national glory which they could earn by conquering most of the new world and also serve God. They felt that claiming a part of the world was their duty towards God. So, the three main G's was their motivation to conquer the new world: gold, glory, and God.

I don't think 3.) would apply as this was a huge issue in the Soviet Union, and yet the fascist government remained in power for decades. I also do not think 4.) would apply as growing minority power would limit the power of the potentially fascist "majority."
