Humanism had to do with the Renaissance as during the time period there  were famous humanist such as Petrarch, Lorenzo Valla and Leonardo Bruni, just to add a few. Humanism would be considered new as appreciation for the art of living was growing and the potential in humanity was possible. The humanities would include beauty, art, talent, and education as new art was rising. It would be old due to the interest in classicism which was greco-roman along with ancient philosophy, logic, rhetoric, investigation and classic architecture which included symmetrical pillars and arches.
