The answer is C because fungi use decomposition to get nutrition, while plants produce their own nutrients, making them autotrophs. Answer choice A is incorrect because fungi cells do have cell walls, even though they contain chitin, which isn't present in the cell walls of plants. Answer choice B is incorrect because while they do form colonies, most fungi are multicellular. Answer choice D is incorrect because plants are also able to reproduce both sexually and asexually.

Similar plant growth forms found in similar climates, but separated by large distances and not necessarily genetically related,
Anit [1.1K]

The affinity of unrelated plants to evolve superficially in similar characteristics under similar environmental conditions like climates but separated by distance are influence by convergent evolution. Seed dispersal has evolved independently in most plant species. For instance, the fleshy part of a tomato is the walls of the outer layer. This implies convergent evolution under selective pressure where competition for seed dispersal is through consumption of fleshy fruits by animals such as birds or ants.

Which organism is made up of cells that have both a cell membrane and a cell wall?
Leokris [45]
Though most prokaryotes have both a cell membrane and a cell wall, there are exceptions such as Mycoplasma (bacteria) and Thermoplasma ( archaea ) which only possess the cell membrane layer. The envelope gives rigidity to the cell and separates the interior of the cell from its environment, serving as a protective filter. Hope this helped!

Replacing lysine with aspartic acid is really a change in the primary structure (the sequence of the amino acids - think in a chain). But because they are really different amino acids, the effect is much more profound and will affect the tertiary structure of the protein.

Lysine has a basic, positively charged side chain. Aspartic acid has a negatively charged carboxyl group for its side chain. So, they are two very different amino acids.

Since the tertiary structure of a protein is a result of the interactions of the various interactions of the amino acid side chains, you have to think about what a swap of a basic positive amino acid with a negatively charged amino acid could cause.

For example, if the lysine side chain interacted in ionic interactions (i.e. attraction to a negatively charged amino acid), if you swap it for aspartic acid which is negatively charged it will now repel the other amino acid's side chain and that would disrupt the tertiary structure of the protein. It would also likely cause disruption to the quaternary structure as well.

If this change was in an important part of the protein (e.g. the active site of an enzyme) then it would likely disrupt the proper functioning of this protein.

If you wanted to make the least amount of change to a protein by making a mutation to that lysine amino acid, you would choose other basic amino acids which are histidine and arginine.
