Read the passage and answer the question that follows. Chief Joseph's Surrender Speech, October 5, 1877 by Chief Joseph Tell Gen

eral Howard I know his heart. What he told me before, I have it in my heart. I am tired of fighting. Our Chiefs are killed; Looking Glass is dead, Ta Hool Hool Shute is dead. The old men are all dead. It is the young men who say yes or no. He who led on the young men is dead. It is cold, and we have no blankets; the little children are freezing to death. My people, some of them, have run away to the hills, and have no blankets, no food. No one knows where they are—perhaps freezing to death. I want to have time to look for my children, and see how many of them I can find. Maybe I shall find them among the dead. Hear me, my Chiefs! I am tired; my heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands I will fight no more forever. What does the speaker want most for his audience to feel?
a)Sympathy for his people
b)Anger at the U.S. government
c)Joy that his people will be rescued
d)Frustration with the slow process of Indian removal

It would be letter A.

The speaker would want his audience to feel <span>sympathy for his people. This is evidenced by the way he described the situation of the people and not on how the government did something wrong.

"</span><span>It is cold, and we have no blankets; the little children are freezing to death."
"</span><span>I want to have time to look for my children, and see how many of them I can find. Maybe I shall find them among the dead."</span>

Gemiola [76]

Answer:

The Cultural Cause of Poverty

Cultures have internal and external elements that contribute to the existence of poverty. Some of these conditions are tangible and external, like:

Lack of shelter

Limited access to clean water resources

Food insecurity

Physical disabilities

Lack of access to health care

Unemployment

Absence of social services

Gender discrimination

Poor infrastructure

Government corruption

Environmental circumstances such as natural disasters, droughts, limited resources or depletion of natural resources

Other elements are intangible and internal—knowledge, aspiration, diligence, confidence, leadership styles, participatory governance, social capital, values, and peace, to name a few.

The discovery that the men we had scorned as peasant guerrillas were, in fact, a lethal, determined enemy and the casualty lists
Alexxandr [17]

Answer:

The best option is letter A) felt their efforts were not successful.

Explanation:

The excerpt we are analyzing here was taken from a memoir called "A Rumor of War" by Philip Caputo. Caputo recalls his experience at the Vietnam War and how he believes America's involvement in it was all for nothing.

As we can tell from the excerpt, soldiers did not seem well prepared at first. They misjudged their enemy, thinking of them as mere "peasant guerrillas". The enemies turned out to be lethal, and more and more American soldiers died each week. That "broke [their] confidence", which means they felt their efforts were not successful. In the book, the author even says he wishes he had different war stories to tell instead of the ones he actually lived. Battles in Vietnam were exhausting and never-ending; the enemy was seemingly undefeatable, hiding in jungles filled with traps and snipers.
