The Antebellum Period in American history is generally considered to be the period before the civil war and after the War of 1812. <span>Slaves in the U.S. resisted their bondage through many passive forms of resistance, such as damaging equipment, working slowly, or keeping their culture and religious beliefs alive, although that often required secrecy. </span>
The Federal government finally tried to help stem the tide of the Great Depression in the form of the New Deal, which was initiated by FDR and increased the scope of government.
Ever since the first pioneers settled in the United States at the East , the country has been expanding westward. When President Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana territory from the French government in 1803, it doubled the size of the existing United States.
