John Adams was the second President of the United States, he is one of the Founding Fathers, he was part of the Continental Congress during the American Revolution and Vice-President of George Washington.
During his presidency, the European war between France and England was one of the main issues. Many Americans including the Vice-President Thomas Jefferson supported France and wanted to side with them because they saw this war related to the American Revolution, and many others including the Federalists (Adam's party) wanted to support Britain.
<em>President John Adams wanted to maintain peace and a central position, he was afraid of the effects the French Revolution could have on the country so he tried to stay out of the war. This position caused him popularity through the population and in the Federalist party.</em>
