The revolution was triggered by the president of Mexico in 1835 rejecting the previous constitution of 1824 and proclaiming a new one of 1835, which was more anti-federalist. Riots erupted throughout Mexico. The result of the fighting in the Texas area was the proclamation of a new state: the Republic of Texas.
