<span>A modern-day retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is carried out in the musical C. West Side Story. It is a musical produced for Broadway in 1957, and was inspired by Shakespeare's tragedy. My Fair Lady was inspired by Shaw's Pygmalion, H.M.S. Pinafore and The Mikado were both original pieces done by Arthur Sullivan and W. S. Gilbert. </span>
