Closely read the poem and determine which figure of speech is used.
rjkz [21]

To determine which figure is used in the poem  “In a Station of the Metro,” by Ezra Pound:

<em>In a Station of the Metro</em>

<em>The apparition of these faces</em>

<em>in the crowd;</em>

<em>petals on a wet, black</em>

<em>bough.</em>

The figure of speech used is option B. Metaphor. because the author is using a comparison between two things without adding the words ‘like or as’.

In this case in just 2 lines:

" (...)<em>these faces</em>

<em>in the crowd;</em>

<em>petals on a wet, black</em>

<em>bough.</em>"

The poet compares the people´s faces with petals, maybe for the beauty, or maybe for their fragility.

<h3>What is the figure of speech?</h3>

They are variations from the way of speaking or writing, aimed at explaining, emphasizing, elucidating, or embellishing what is being said.

They are mostly used in poetry to give them more liveliness.

An argument uses logic to show why your stand on an issue is the best choice. An argument needs evidence and conclusion that convinces the reader or listener and validates the argument's premises.

It is necessary to collect pieces of evidence and logic behind the evidence to convince. it should claim your stand on an issue. Arguments should ignore the hasty generalizations such as pink color is associated with girls and blue to boys.
