Joseph McCarthy was the Republican senator of Wisconsin from 1947 until 1957, during this time the world was living something known as the Cold Wara a non-armed conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union in order to prove which political system was the best: Capitalism, or Communism. McCarthy became famous in the United States because he led many investigations about public servers and thousands were accused of being communist sympathizers, however, in most of these cases he couldn't prove the accusations, but it was a good example of the tension between the Soviet Union and the U.S.
