The basic principals of Uniformitarianism were enough to give geologists a sequencial history of the earth but absolute dating using isotope data from igneous rocks gathered using several different techniques (strontium/rubidium, parent/daughter isotope decay rates) and with the combination of these two geologists were able to develop the geological time scale.

The Connecticut compromise provided:
rusak2 [61]

The Connecticut Compromise (also known as the Great Compromise)  provided a solution for the debate between large-population states and small population states over how representation in Congress would be determined.  It created a bicameral legislature with different rules for representation in each chamber.

Explanation/detail:

The Great Compromise was a measure decided during the United States Constitutional Convention in 1787.  The Great Compromise resolved a dispute between small population states and large population states.  The large population states wanted representation in Congress to be based on a state's population size. (This was the essence of the Virginia Plan.) The smaller states feared this would lead to unchecked dominance by the big states; they wanted all states to receive the same amount of representation.  (This was the New Jersey Plan.)

The Great Compromise (aka Connecticut Compromise) created a bicameral (two-chamber) legislature, with different rules for representation in each chamber. Representation in the House of Representatives would be based on population.  In the Senate, all states would have the same amount of representation, by two Senators.

How was using the Mandate of Heaven as a basis for political power dangerous to Zhou rulers?
ValentinkaMS [17]

The Zhou dynasty was the longest lasting of the Chinese Empire's dynasties. It lasted from 1046 to 256 BCE. Many cultural and intellectual developments happened during this period. The works of the renown philosopher Confucius occurred during the Zhou Dynasty.

Chinese rulers were believed to have a "higher power". The Zhou claimed that their predecessors: The Shang had lost the "Mandate of Heaven" due to their numerous mistakes while ruling the empire. As a result, the Zhou were cautious of relating themselves to any sort of "Higher Power", as other forces could depose them under the same argument that the Shang were removed from power.

Why authorities wrote slave code
Pavel [41]
Authorities didn't write the slave codes. They banned them because people who weren't slaves couldn't understand them and it made revolt easier for slaves.
