The Great Smog of London occurred in the yea 1952 <u>due to the settling of an anticyclone over the region of London</u> that was characterized by the absence of any prevailing wind. This resulted in the temperature inversion where the overlying warm air covered the static cold water, giving rise to the formation of fog and was intermixed with the smoke produced from the industries and vehicles. This smog was yellowish-black in color due to the presence of soots which are tarry particles, and also due to the absence of wind, these smog and other pollutants were accumulated for some days, which killed nearly 4000 peoples.
