Ok so I have a lot to talk about this from well MY parents, not only do parents set a mindset where they are above you and you need them for everything and without them you wouldn't be able to be successful, they apply stress about school and expectations and most parents never let their children's express themselves so the child will grow up with low left esteem and low confidence, when I was a kid my mom wouldn't allow me to dress how I wanted to dress or talk how I wanted to talk, she would always say "You must be proper and ladylike or else people will think you are a man, and men are filthy" I know it sounds silly but at that time I believed her, I believed every word she said and from then on I have been diagnosed with depression and have very low self-esteem.
