The effects of the Civil War are still being seen today in the form of wide range prejudice and the systematic exclusion of African-Americans from voting in Southern States. This is as a result of the Civil War and the failed reconstruction after the Civil War and as a result, many of the wounds are still present and unhealed.

Voting can affect family life. One example of this was the temperance movement. It promoted the practice of never drinking alcohol. The point women were trying to make was that alcohol could cause men to waste their money, ignore their families, and abuse their wives. This is why it is important for women to be able to vote.</span>
