Which of these strategies would eliminate a variable in the system of equations?
RoseWind [281]

The value of x is 0.1 and y is -0.75, if the given equations are 10x+4y=-2 and 5x-2y=2.

Step-by-step explanation:

The given is,

                              10x+4y=-2 .................................(1)

                                  5x-2y=2..................................(2)

Step:1

          Equation (2) is multiplied by -2                    ( Eqn(2) × -2 )

                               -10x+4y=-4................................(3)

Step:2

          Substrate the equation (1)  and (3),

                                  10x+4y=-2

                                -10x+4y=-4

           ( - )

            (10x+10x)+(4y-4y)=(-2+4)

                                            20x=2

                                               x=\frac{2}{20}

                                                 = 0.1

                                               x = 0.1

Step:3

            Substitute the value of x in equation (1),

                                  10x+4y=-2

          Where, x = 0.1

                           (10)(0.1)+4y=-2

                                        1+4y=-2

                                              4y=-3

                                                y = - \frac{4}{3}

                                               y =- 0.75

Step:4

       Check for solution,

                                      5x-2y=2

                 (5)(0.1)-(2)(-0.75)=2

                                    0.5+1.5=2

                                               2 = 2

Result:

           The value of x is 0.1 and y is -0.75, if the given equations are 10x+4y=-2 and 5x-2y=2.
