We have x+y=5
xy=-45
solve
x+y=5
subtract x from both sides
y=-x+5
subsiute -x+5 for y in second equaiton
x(-x+5)=-45
-x^2+5x=-45
add 2x^2-5x to both sides
0=x^2-5x-45
use quadratic equation which is
if you have 0=ax^2+bx+c then x=\frac{-b+ \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac} }{2a} or \frac{-b- \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac} }{2a}
sbsitute
1x^2-5x-45
a=1
b=-5
c=-45
subsitute
\frac{-(-5)+ \sqrt{-5^{2}-4(1)(-45)} }{2(1)}
\frac{5+ \sqrt{25-(-180)} }{2}
\frac{5+ \sqrt{25+180} }{2}
\frac{5+ \sqrt{205} }{2}
\sqrt{205} [tex} is not eaqual to a whole number so we will leave it like that\\x= [tex] \frac{5+ \sqrt{205} }{2} or\frac{5- \sqrt{} }{2} or aprox x=-4.65891 or 9.65891, so the 2 numbers would be those answers for x

dsp73

Answer:

a^{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

√a^4 is the same as:

√a × √a × √a × √a

group them as 2 pairs of

(√a × √a) × (√a × √a)

which makes

a × a

which is the same as a^{2}

Which is the Recursive Function?
Tcecarenko [31]

Answer:

In programming, a recursive function is a function that calls itself. Recursion is used very commonly in programming, although many simple examples (including some shown in this section) are actually not very efficient and can be replaced by iterative methods (loops or vectorized code in MATLAB).

The dance committee of Pine Bluff Middle School earns \$72$72 from a bake sale and will earn \$4$4 for each ticket they sell to
jeyben [28]

Answer:

Inequality is 4t+72>400

Solution is C: t > 82

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of tickets = t

It is given that the committee earns $4 per ticket. That is, they earn 4t dollars.

Also, the committee earns $72 from the bake sale.

So, the total income is 4t+72 dollars.

Since, the dance will cost $400.

So, the total earning must be greater than $400.

Thus, the inequality for the situation is given by, 4t+72>400.

So, on solving, we have,

4t+72>400

i.e. 4t>328

i.e. t > 82.

Thus, the solution of the inequality is t> 82

Hence, option C is correct.

y varies directly with x.

The constant of variation is k = 7

Step-by-step explanation:

We have to check whether both vary directly with each other or not.

Every pair of x and y will be considered one by one

If y varies directly with x, it should satisfy y = kx or k = yx

So,

For x= -2, y=-14

-14 = -2k\\k = \frac{-14}{-2}\\k = 7

For

x=3, y=21

21 = 3k\\ k = \frac{21}{3}\\k = 7

For

x=5, y=35

35 = 5k\\ k = \frac{35}{5}\\k = 7

As k is same for all pairs of x and y, it can be concluded that:

y varies directly with x.

The constant of variation is k = 7
