A drop in blood glucose concentration means that the concentration of glucose in the blood stream is low, therefore there is a need to increase the concentration of glucose in the blood. In order to do this, the glycogenolysis process will be set in motion while the glycogenesis process will be switched off. Glycogenolysis is the process by which stored glycogen are broken down into glucose in order to replenish the glucose concentration of the blood.
