1. During the Middle Ages, a period of European history lasting from around the 5th century to the 15th century, women held the positions of wife, mother, peasant, artisan, and nun, as well as some important leadership roles, such as abbess or queen regnant.

2. Henry IV and Gregory VII have a strong disagreement about power and authority.
Their disagreement was about who had the right to appoint church officials.

3. The stated goal of the Crusades was to recapture the Holy Land from Muslim forces.

4. Village priests married and had families contrary to Church law. Kings, rather than Church leaders, appointed bishops. & Bishops sold positions in the Church for money.
