The short term effect of the Great Southwest Strike was that an internal clash began between different groups within the Knights which resulted in the breaking down of the union.

The calling of the Great Southwest Strike failed as the engineers and the workers other than the inferior labours refused to participate in the strike.

The governors of different states used military and police forces to crush the strike which caused a lot of violence and an eventual breakdown of the union.
