An insurance company crashed four cars of the same model at 5 miles per hour. The costs of repair for each of the four crashes w

ere $436, $403, $479, and $249 . Compute the mean, median, and mode cost of repair. Compute the mean cost of repair. Select the correct choice below and, if necessary, fill in the answer box to complete your choice. A. The mean cost of repair is $ nothing. (Round to the nearest cent as needed.) B. Answer:

Data :  $436, $403, $479, and $249 .

Mean = \frac{\text{Sum of all observations }}{\text{total no. of observations}}

Mean = \frac{436+403+479+249}{4}

Mean = 391.75

No. of terms n = 4 (even)

Median = \frac{\frac{n}{2}th +(\frac{n}{2} +1)th}{2}

Median = \frac{\frac{4}{2}th +(\frac{4}{2} +1)th}{2}

Median = \frac{2nd +(3)rd}{2}

Median = \frac{403+479}{2}

Median = 441

Mode is the value repeating the more no. of times

So, there is no mode.

Hence Mean is 391.75 , Median is 441 and no mode.

A rectangle has an area of 20 cm^2. What will the area be if the rectangle tripled in size?
antoniya [11.8K]

Answer:

  180 cm^2

Step-by-step explanation:

For similar figures the ratio of areas is the square of the ratio of linear dimensions.

We take "tripled in size" to mean that the linear dimensions of the larger rectangle are 3 times those of the smaller rectangle. That means the area of the larger rectangle will be 3² = 9 times the area of the smaller one.

  Area = (3²)(20 cm²) = 180 cm² . . . . area after tripled in size

Convert this number given in standard form into scientific notation. 0. 0000069 What is the value in scientific notation? 0. 69
Len [333]

Scientific notation is used so that the order of the number is known in first glance. The value of the given number in scientific notation is given by: Option B: 6.9 \times 10^{-6}

<h3>How does scientific notations work?</h3>

The number is written in the form a \times 10^b where we have 1 \leq a < 10

The number b shows the order, which is the most important figure for which scientific notation is used. It tells us how much order large or small a value is in powers of 10. We can for a time, ignore the value of 'a' for two comparable quantities and only compare their orders(this type of comparison is useful when difference is too big, like size of human to size of a star etc sort of comparisons).

Scientific notations have some of the profits as:

  • Better readability due to compact representation
  • Its value in terms of power of 10 is known, which helps in easy comparison of quantities differing by a large value.

For the given case, the number in consideration is 0.0000069

Rewriting it in fraction form, we get:

0.0000069  = \dfrac{69}{10000000} = \dfrac{69}{10^7} = 69 \times 10^{-7} = 6.9 \times 10 \times 10^{-7}\\\\0.0000069  =  6.9 \time 10 ^{-7 +1} \\0.0000069  = 6.9\times 10^{-6}

(we used two facts: first that : \dfrac{a}{b} = a \times \dfrac{1}{b}

and second that: a^{-b}= \dfrac{1}{a^b}

Thus, the value of the given number in scientific notation is given by: Option B: 6.9 \times 10^{-6}
