There were certain situations when women were permitted to inherit and own property but not to regulate it as it was they were considered unable to handle such matters on their own. At the initial phase, they were not even considered citizen but with the evolution of Roman law, they got certain rights reserved to them.

The freed men's Bureau did redistribute large amounts of land to freedmen in some areas from wealthy southern planters and from abandoned plantations. Southern planters began to return and demand their land back, and vey few republicans wanted to live where the government could arbitrarily confiscate land from people, so much of the land was given back to its original owners

The son's of liberty was a secret society who opposed the stamp act and wanted to protect rights of the colonists. After the French and Indian War the British taxed the colonists but they felt that it violated their rights as citizens. "No taxation without representation" I don't know who funded them.. sorry.
