Rob has $1.65 in nickels and dimes. He has 25 coins in all. How many of each kind of coin are there?
valentinak56 [21]

Answer:

The number of nickels is 17 and number of dimes is 8.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of nickels be x and number of dimes be y.

Total number of coins is 25.

x+y=25                   .... (1)

\$1=100\text{ cents}

1\text{ nickel}=5\text{ cents}

1\text{ dimes}=10\text{ cents}

5x+10y=1.65\times100

5x+10y=165                     .... (2)

On solving (1) and (2), we get

5x+10(25-x)=165

-5x+250=165

-5x=-85

x=17

Put this value in equation 1.

17+y=25

y=8

Therefore the number of nickels is 17 and number of dimes is 8.
