The time units used by scientists to divide Earth's history are part of the geological time scale. The geological time scale measures the timing and the relationships of specific occurrences in the history of the Earth. It is used mostly by geologists and paleontologists. They define the earth's history by studying the Earth's composition then connect facts to major geological or paleontological events.

Through the use of a geological time scale, scientists have found discoveries and put together the missing pieces of the past. Probably, the most distinguishable event discovered through the geological time scale is mass extinction of species.

Which of the following themes differentiates the modern era from other historical periods?
Keith_Richards [23]

It all depends on the definition of the term Modern Era. The word modern comes from Latin word modo, which means right now or just now. It was used for the first time during the Renaissance in Italy to bring attention to the great rediscoveries of sciences, the arts, history and politics of Classical antiquity and the subsequent discoveries and progresses accomplished like the Age of Discovery.

If such definition is used as the basis for this question then the answer is definitely C.The establishment of global empires.

Indeed, since during the previous periods, Empires were limited to their immediate geographic areas. There had been some attempts to explore areas that were located much farther like the Vikings and their travels to Greenland and North America.

However, it was the Europeans: and to some lesser extent the Chinese, that actually discovered (in the literal sense of removing the cover) the Americas for the entirety of the world. The discovery paved the way for the emergence of Global Empires that were completely unprecedented in the history of humanity since they spanned several continents. For instance, the Global Spanish Empire Under Philip II of Spain in the 16th Century that spanned the continents of Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia.

What would you do if the state that you live in was considered a slave state yet you were against slavery?
drek231 [11]
Probably either move or keep my mouth shut. In history, the banning of the slave trade was a hard and smartly fought battle. There were people who spoke out about slaves but because it was the norm no one wanted to speak up about it. Mostly slave trade is banned now thanks to William Wilberforce.

What were the diverse purposes of england's american colonies and how were those purposes altered in the early years of settleme
crimeas [40]

There were several different reasons for English settlement including:

1) Economic opportunities- North America provided individuals who were poor in England an opportunity to escape poverty. Along with this, in North America there was no rigid social structure. In England at this time, if you were born a peasant you would stay a peasant for your entire life.

2) Religious freedom- Individuals who broke away from the Anglican Church (Church of England) could escape to North America in order to practice their own religion.

3) Pursuit of gold/natural resources- North America was known for having gold and other valuable resources that English citizens desired.

Ultimately, these goals changed over time. This is especially true when the Europeans began growing cash crops like tobacco in the Southern colonies (like Virginia).
