Why is Frederick Horsman Varley historically significant (to Canada/the World)?

One of Varley's most famous works is Stormy Weather, Georgian Bay, painted after a summer at Georgian Bay, yet he was primarily a figure and portrait painter. Canadian War Records commissioned Varley to illustrate the war in Europe. He painted several portraits in England and made 2 trips to France. Converting maps from 3-D into 2-D will often cause some sort of misshape of the map, even though the distance and the size projection between the maps maybe accurate
