How was the Constitution significant in helping African Americans to gain civil rights?

History

After the Civil War, the US Constitution became a means to ensure that African-Americans had rights in American society. This was due to the passage of the following three amendments:

1) 13th amendment- This outlawed slavery or forced labor all over the US.

2) 14th amendment- This amendment states that any person born on US soil or naturalized has all of the rights/freedoms guaranteed in the US Constitution.

3) 15th amendment- This amendment states that a person cannot be stopped from voting based on race, color, or past servitude. Essentially, this makes it so that a government can't stop a person from voting based on the fact that they were a slave before this time period.

Analyzing Causes What influences from
Radda [10]

Answer:

Analyzing Causes

Factors that influenced and encouraged Revel to dedicate his life to racial harmony:

1. Revel was born of free parents in North Carolina in the South.  He knew what freedom meant from birth and savored its effect.

2. Despite his birth of free parents he was denied education in the South.

3.  He had to travel to Indiana and Illinois to receive education.

4. He became a Methodist pastor and knew Jesus Christ.  He knew the freedom that should be enjoyed by every human being.

5. He actively participated in the Civil War as a minister to two Black Regiments and knew first-hand the destructive effects of racial discrimination.

6. After becoming a politician and the first black senator of the United States, he understood that he must use his political position to influence positive changes in the US society.  It was his chance and he used it well.

Explanation:

The man we are discussing is Hiram Rhodes Revels (1827 - 1901).  He is enviably the first black senator in the US senate.  He was born of free parents in North Carolina.  He received his education from Indiana and Illinois because "there was no opportunity for him in the inns," of the heavily discrimination-infected South.  Despite all odds he became a Reverend gentleman, and endeared himself to his community through his intelligence and eloquence.  Not satisfied with the status-quo, he vied for political positions in the state of Mississippi and eventually became the first black senator in US history.

Was Frederick church in senate
Mashcka [7]
Fredrick church was not in senate...Frederic Edwin Church (May 4, 1826 – April 7, 1900) was an American landscape painter[1] born in Hartford, Connecticut. He was a central figure in the Hudson River School of American landscape painters, perhaps best known for painting large panoramic landscapes, often depicting mountains, waterfalls, and sunsets, but also sometimes depicting dramatic natural phenomena that he saw during his travels to the Arctic and Central and South America. Church's paintings put an emphasis on light and a romantic respect for natural detail. In his later years, Church painted classical Mediterranean and Middle Eastern scenes and cityscapes.[2]
