They definitely improve their health, and since they won't cause anybody to commit passive smoking I suppose they'd improve the health of those around them.
If they have emphysema or bronchitis already, quitting will reduce the effect it has on them (emphysema is a disease of the alveoli, bronchitis of the bronchae). The carbon monoxide in the smoke also would no longer bind with hemoglobin in their blood to form carboxyhemoglobin, wasting oxygen that could be used for respiration, so they get more tired easily etc.
Toxic chemicals are mostly found in waste sites where they dump old chemicals and with that, that could cause health problems because they could either dump it into the oceans where the life is or they will burn it causing pollution.

Yes, a company can own an organism. There was a time when it was not allowed for a company to have ownership of an organism but now it's possible including the selling of the said organism to bidders. The person can patent that changed organism provided that the organism has not been patented before.
