The factor that led to the United States' acquisition of Florida from Spain was when Jackson invaded Florida. He had been sent to patrol the Florida- Georgia border to stop the attacks being organized in Florida and targeting plantations and farms in Georgia and the Carolinas. Jackson, despite orders, crossed the border to go after the outlaws and effectively invaded Spanish territory. Luckily, Spain was more concerned for other territories and places and had begun to see Florida as a drain. This allowed for the Adams-Onis Treaty and war to be avoided.
