The main way in which World War I hurt business in Europe even after the war was that Europe was economically devastated and had focussed all their production on war materials, meaning there was a lack of goods and services after the war.

The US cut off financial help to Japan because of that and joined the axis powers with Europe.  Then Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and pulled the US into WWII.  Then the US went and blew up Japan with Nuclear bombs and took control of their military.
