If religious elements were considered idolatory, why were stories from the Old Testament of the Bible considered appropriate for

With the proposed change in the mold of the Christian religion, the Reformation also led to the decline of the form of "Christian art" as produced until then. One of the immediate effects was the aversion to temple decoration. While the sensory experience in Catholicism was rich in symbols, in Protestantism physical representations capable of promoting worship and devotion were avoided. Even today, for those who have been to a place or time of Catholic and evangelical worship, it is easy to see how art is often very much incorporated in the first context and very little in the second.
Much of the Protestant refusal to make religious art can be explained by the prohibition of idol creation. But some saw the creation of images in another way. The emphasis of this commandment is on rebuking idol worship, which attributed to material icons the glory that was due only to God.
