Answer:

The expression given by Ivy is WRONG.

The correct expression is  $(19 + 77 x (0.5) )

The total mount in jar = $57.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, for each point scored, $0.5 is put in the jar.

Now, the point scored in the first game  = 38 points

So, the amount put in the jar for 38 points = 38 x ( amount for 1 point)

=  38 x ( $0.5)   = $19

So, after first game, jar has $19.

Now, the point scored in the(2 +3) game  = 77 points

So, the amount put in the jar for 77 points = 77 x ( amount for 1 point)

=  77 x ( $0.5)   = 77 x (0.5)

So, after second and third  game, jar has $ (77 x (0.5)).

Now, total amount in jar

= Amount after first game  + Amount after second and third game

= 19 + 77 x (0.5)

But , here THE TOTAL AMOUNT given by Ivy  = 38+(77  x 0.5)

And 19 + 77 x (0.5)  ≠ 38+(77  x 0.5)

Hence, the expression given by Ivy is WRONG.

The correct expression is  $(19 + 77 x (0.5) )

And, the total mount in jar = 19 +  38.5 =  $57.5

Which integral gives the area of the region in the first quadrant bounded by the graphs of y2 = x − 1, x = 0, y = 0, and y = 2?
Zarrin [17]

Interesting that only integrals along the x-axis are suggested when integrating along the y-axis would be much simpler... Anyway, you have to split the interval of integration into two. The "height" of the region is not uniform over the entire interval.

When y=0, we have 0^2=x-1\implies x=1. When y=2, we have 2^2=x-1\implies x=5. Then the area we want is given by

\displaystyle\int_0^12\,\mathrm dx+\int_1^52-\sqrt{x-1}\,\mathrm dx

which seems to agree with the last option.
