</span><span>Ismene feels that human authority has more power than the gods; therefore, she will submit to Creon's decree forbidding the burial of her brother Polyneices. She plans to seek the forgiveness of the gods for her decision but does not seem to fear them. In addition to fearing Creon, she does not feel that she is strong enough to take a stand against the law. In contrast, Antigone does not fear human authority and chooses to follow the gods.
