Free will is the freedom to make your own choices. You get to choose your occupation, clothes, things like that. Fate is where things at meant for you. You might meet a stranger and they could change your life. You could get in a traffic jam but when you get to where you were going it turns out that if you had been there on time, you would’ve been stuck in a robbery. However, fate and free will can go hand in hand. Your choices could lead you to your fate.

Based on this excerpt from Ernest Hemingway's "In Another Country," what is the contextual meaning of the word resign?
kiruha [24]

I believe the answer is: A. "I am sorry," he said, and patted me on the shoulder with his good hand. "I would not be rude. My wife has just died. You must forgive me."

The word resign indicates accepting some sort of feeling or situation that cannot be ignored or pushed aside. From the sentences in option A, we can infer that the reader already accept the fact that his wife has died and acknowledge that his emotion is influenced by it.

People began to look around to see the Hutchinsons. Bill Hutchinson was standing quiet, staring down at the paper in his hand. S
AysviL [449]

Answer:

A. Tessie Hutchinson is in conflict with the society.

Explanation:

A conflict in this case is the disagreement between two or more people on a particular point of view.  Tessie Hutchinson does not believe that the time frame given to Mr. Hutchinson to take his papers was ideal or fair enough. This is in contrast to the viewpoint of every other person, including Mr. Hutchinson who tells Tessie to 'shut up'. While Mrs Delacroix tells Tessie to 'be a good sport', Mrs Grace pointed out that, 'every other person was given the same chance'.

So, the society here composed of the greater number of people are in disagreement with Tessie. So, we can say that Tessie is in conflict with the society.
