In the 1800s, many Americans had a strong desire to settle the area all the way to the Pacific ocean coast. There were considered ideas of how American people had special virtues. There was an idea of wanting to create a similar type of society and land usage during the push to the Western part of the country. People expressed excitement about tackling this major goal. All of this ties in to the notion of Manifest Destiny. It was the "Manifest Destiny" of the nation to expand and make use of the land.
