Jacob is baking chocolate chip cookies. The recipe uses 3/4 cup of sugar. Jacob wants to make one -half of a batch. How many cups of sugar does he need?

He wants to make half a serving. 

So,

You would divide 3/4 in half. To make this easier, I am going to give 3/4 a bigger denominator. I'm going to use 8. 

3/4= 6/8

Now, divide the numerator by 2. Keep the denominator the way it is. 

6/2= 3

Jacob needs 3/8 cups of sugar.
