14- Rachel Carson and her book Silent Spring impacted the environmental movement by increasing awareness of harmful effects of pesticides on environment.

Silent Spring is a book by Rachel Carson published on September 27, 1962 that warned of the harmful effects of pesticides on the environment -especially on birds- and blamed the chemical industry for the increasing contamination. Some scientists called it a fantasy, but for many people it is the first informative book on environmental impact and has become a classic of ecological awareness.

Silent Spring is considered to have inspired the environmental mobilization that got the Department of Agriculture to revise its pesticide policy, that DDT was prohibited by United States legislation and laid the groundwork for the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States.

15- As a result of the American discovery of Soviet missile sites in Cuba, an US naval blockade led to agreement with Soviet withdraw of missiles in Cuba and US missile withdraw in Turkey

The result of this crisis was the withdrawal of Soviet nuclear missiles installed in Cuba, the commitment of the United States not to invade Cuba, the withdrawal of US nuclear missiles installed in Turkey and the creation of a direct line of communication between Washington DC and Moscow through the red telephone.

Which of these decides the verdict in a criminal trial?<br> The prosecutor
irina [24]

Answer:

The Jurors decide the verdict. If there are no jurors, the judge makes the decision.

Explanation:

A criminal trial takes place when an individual commits an act prohibited by law. If found guilty, he could be made to pay fines, sent to jail or even face the death sentence. The prosecutor who could be the police or government represented by a Lawyer takes the case to court. The defendant who is the accused is also represented by his own lawyer.

The process begins with an arrest, initial appearance, preliminary hearing, arraignment and trial. After trial, the jurors deliberate on the case and come to a unanimous decision on what the verdict would be. The verdict is then read by the judge, who pronounces the defendant guilty or not guilty.

The demand for increased slave labor in the sixteenth century was due to the dramatic expansion of the declaration of the Treaty
schepotkina [342]

Answer:

colonization of the Americas spurring growth of the sugar industry

Explanation:

The demand for slave labor grew with the growth of the sugar industry in America, mainly in South America. This is because sugar cane farms needed extremely cheap labor, so that profit was optimized. With the failure of the attempt to enslave slaves, Europeans saw blacks as a great option to force work on farms and in the production of sugar.

In other words, the demand for slave labor in the 16th century was due to the colonization of the Americas, stimulating the growth of the sugar industry.

How does the phrase "put your eggs in one basket" apply to the southern economy?
Dafna11 [192]

Putting ones eggs in one basket simply means when one concentrates all thiee efforts and resources in just one particular area.

The Southern economy had a warm climate as well as a fertile soil and this made it appealing to agriculture. Southerners concentrated their efforts on agriculture as it was seen to be very profitable and little effort was put in the indutrial sector.

Crops such as rice, tobacco, cotton, and sugar cane were grown in large quantities and were sold for a profit.

Therefore, the correct option is that the South only focused on agricultural products.
