Go back to North America. Give the colonists some representation in Parliament and a little more ‘freedom’ to rule and re-write laws and economic policies (taxes). This would have appeased some of the revolutionary leaders and most of the common people. This may have led to a diplomatic, not militaristic, resolution to the grievances of the colonies that were eventually written in the Dec. of Indep.
Step 1 of the Anaconda plan was to completely blockade all ports that were in any way related to the southern territories. They wanted to prevent them from getting help from outsider countries such as European countries which were willing to help the Southerners at the time. By blocking all ports, they would prevent them from ever leaving the territory. This step was conducted by the Navy.
Step 2 was about cutting it off from help from the Americas. It was about a continental blockade where the southerners would be surrounded from all sides, from Northern states in the north, to northern blockades in the East and West. It also stopped operating because its original aim, to restore white supremacy in government and positions of power was achieved and there was no need for such an organization to continue. In the 1920's the Klan was revived by a preacher in Atlanta , Georgia. The reasons for this were patriotism and a fear of growing immigration, a nostalgia for the old south way of life and ideas like the ones coming from the Russian revolution where religion lost power and the people took control. This new revival resulted in a racist and violent organization closed and rejecting new immigrants or new ideas who react with intolerance and violence to what they see as different.
The purpose of the League of Nations was to prevent through collective security and disarmament and settling international disputes through negotiation and arbitration. The League of Nations also wanted to take care of labor conditions, just treatment of native inhabitants, human and drug trafficking, arms trade, global health, prisoners of war and protection of minorities in Europe.
