The following are the factors that contributed to the outbreak of violence in the fight for civil rights:

 

1.       Malcolm X, Black Panthers, and others’ philosophy of violent protests

2.       African Americans’ reaction to the assassination of civil rights leaders

3.       backlash against white racist acts

4.       poor living and working conditionsespecially in urban areas

5.       difficulty in eradicating de facto segregation in the North
