A farmer builds a fence to enclose a rectangular pasture. He uses 160 feet of fence. Find the total area of the pasture of it is

So the total perimeter of the pasture is 160 ft.. We know that the length of one side is 50 feet. Multiply 50 by 2  because there are 2 sides and subtract that from 160. Now we know that the total of both of the other sides is 60. Divide 60 by 2 to find the width and you find that it is 30 ft. Now multiply 30 by 50 and you get 1500. So the total area of the pasture is 1,500 feet. Hope that helps! :)

The perimeter of a scalene triangle is 14.5 cm. The longest side is twice that of the shortest side. Which equation can be used
marysya [2.9K]
S = length of small side
M = length of medium side
L = length of long side

The triangle is scalene meaning that the three sides (S, M, L) are all different. If any two sides were equal, then we'd have an isosceles triangle. If all sides were the same, then the triangle would be equilateral.

"The longest side is twice that of the shortest side" tells us that L = 2*S
The longest side is given to be 6.2 cm, so L = 6.2 and we can find S to be...

L = 2*S
6.2 = 2*S
2*S = 6.2
S = 6.2/2
S = 3.1

The longest side is 6.2 leads to the shortest side being 3.1

Add up the three sides and set that sum equal to the perimeter 14.5

(short side) + (medium side) + (long side) = perimeter
S + M + L = 14.5
3.1 + M + 6.2 = 14.5
M + 9.3 = 14.5

It's not clear where your teacher wants you to stop, so this might be a good place. If you wanted, you can isolate M by subtracting 9.3 from both sides

How many square feet of outdoor carpet will we need for this hole?
SVETLANKA909090 [29]

For this you would want to break this fgure up with familar shapes. You can do two triangles and one big rectangle.

First triangle:

(3)(2)(1/2)= 3 feet squared

Second Triangle:

(3)(4)(1/2)= 6 feet squared

Rectangle:

(11)(3)= 33 feet squared

Now you add:

33+3+6= 42 feet squared

So, for this hole you will need 42 feet squared of outdoor carpet
