Say that the width is "x" yards. $x$
The length of the field is three times longer than the width. $3x$
The perimeter of the rectangle is 128 yards. $128$
To get the perimeter of a rectangle you multiply the sum of the length and the width by two. $2(x+3x)=128$
Then you follow order of operations and add x and 3x. $2*4x=128$
Then you multiply. $8x=128$
After that, you divide 8 on both sides to get the width (total) in yards. $x=32$
Then you divide that to get the width. $32/2=16$
Finally, to get the length of the field, you multiply the width of the field by three to get its length. $16*3=48$
