Rural to urban migration is primarily motivated by the desire for people in rural areas to have a better life.  In some countries, families living in the countryside had many difficulties such as lack development and support from government as well as exploitation from rich landlords.  Many felt that they were better off if they could to the city and earn more.  The problem is that mass migration will leave the countryside underdeveloped and it will not be able to produce materials needed for the businesses found in the cities. When that happens, job opportunities in the cities become more difficult and with an influx of a large number of people that will lead to many problems like unemployment that would lead to poverty and even crime.
