I'd like to understand what Daisy means in The Great Gatsby, when she says she is "sophisticated". "You see I think everything's

terrible anyhow," she went on in a convinced way. "Everybody thinks so—the most advanced people. And I know. I've been everywhere and seen everything and done everything." Her eyes flashed around her in a defiant way, rather like Tom's, and she laughed with thrilling scorn. "Sophisticated—God, I'm sophisticated!" Does she mean she is "blasé", (she says she has been everywhere and seen everything and done everything")?

In this passage, Daisy describes herself as "sophisticated." However, when doing so, she also laughs with scorn, suggesting that she is speaking ironically.

The main implication in the passage is that Daisy is aware of the fact that others consider her "sophisticated." However, it seems like she does not believe she fits this epithet. A person who is sophisticated is one who is knowledgeable about the world, is up-to-date with cultural trends and has had a variety of experiences. This is also linked, to some extent, to people who are relatively wealthy. By showing disdain for the idea, Daisy is showing that she does not believe that most people who claim to be sophisticated (such as the upper class people who surround her) are actually sophisticated,  and that she is above them because she realizes she cannot truly claim to be so.

Difference between literary nonfiction and traditional nonfiction
Mars2501 [29]

Answer: For writers and readers alike, it's sometimes hard to tell the difference between fiction and nonfiction. In general, fiction refers to plot, settings, and characters created from the imagination, while nonfiction refers to factual stories focused on actual events and people.

6a. What made Dave Withrow uniquely qualified to join Operation
Len [333]

Hello. You did not enter the text to which this question refers, however, after searching for it on the internet, I was able to find another question exactly the same as yours that presented the text "NOAA’s Big Miracle Worker" as the text in question. If this is your case I hope the answer below can help you.

Answer and Explanation:

The text is an interview with Dave Withrow about the operation that allowed the rescue of three gray whales that were trapped in Barrow, Alaska in 1988. Withrow shows that he was the qualified professional to work in this operation because he had experience working with marine manifers, such as whales, because when he worked at NOAA at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center, his department was responsible for taking care of any matter related to whales. This can be seen in the first paragraph of the text, in the lines: “... anything whale-related, especially on the West Coast, comes  through our office.”
