Reconstruction brought many changes to the southerners, both good and bad. During the construction era, the black in the south who were once slaves were freed and they become free men. They were also given the power to vote and contribute to the government. The whites in the south were bitter about these positive changes to the black and they put up a lot of violent protests. The whites were also restrained from voting.

There are two ways to change the Constitution. The first involves States calling a constitutional convention and 2/3rds of them making a change. The second involves a 2/3rds vote in Congress.

Nantes, Edict of (1598) French royal decree establishing toleration for Huguenots (Protestants). It granted freedom of worship and legal equality for Huguenots within limits, and ended the Wars of Religion. The Edict was revoked by Louis XIV in 1685, causing many Huguenots to emigrate.
